"Dad, do you know how to get there?"

Kolby has an Eye Doctor appointment this morning and Tim was going to be taking him to the doctor then to school.  Kolby was standing in the door way while Tim got all his stuff together when I hear him holler out "Dad, do you know how to get there?"  We both chuckled and Tim told him, "yes and if we get lost I have my phone so we can call your mom!"

One would think after four years of living in one place, one would know how to get around.  But why learn when you can just pick up the phone and call?

St. Patrick's Day 2011!

So I completely dropped the ball on playing catch up and didn't post anything about Christmas 2010 or even the kids fifth birthday party and our wonderful trip to Disney World! I'll try and post something about it soon. But thought I would put this funny story up on the day it actually happened. Go Figure Right?!?!

So the kids woke up this morning and I told them it was going to be warm out so they could wear shorts and t-shirts, or for Hailey a dress. They started getting their clothes on and Tim asked me what day it was. I told him Thursday and he clarified the 17th. I immediately told the kids they needed to go change and put on something with green on it, so they wouldn't get pinched.

I explained that today is St. Patrick's Day, and to celebrate we where green and if they see someone not wearing green they got to pinch them. They immediately went and changed their clothes and Kolby told me Patrick was going to like his shirt. I assumed this 'Patrick' was a friend from school. While Kolby was getting his shoes on he asked me if he was going to get to see SpongeBob today. I said, "No, why?", he answered with another question, "We're only going to see Patrick?"

After that question I caught on, the only Patrick he knows about apparently is the star fish Patrick from the SpongeBob cartoon, therefore when he heard it was St. Patrick's Day he assumed he would get to see Patrick and possibly SpongeBob too.

It always amazes me how their little brains work!

Halloween

This year for Halloween I wanted to make the kids match somehow. So we went to the store in search of costumes. Kolby saw the Spiderman and wanted to be him immediately so we looked around a bit longer and we found a Spidergirl costume, complete with sparkles! Hailey thought it was cool and we were good to go.

Halloween fell on a Sunday this year so we had a Trunk or Treat from 3-5 at church. The kids woke up from their nap and got all dressed up. We sprayed Hailey's hair with a blue strip and painted her eye mask on. Drove over to the church where the parking lot was full of decorated trunks. Some had little tasks to do in order to get your candy and others had things that would reach out and grab your hand. They both rode the train and the ponies (Kolby likes these ponies because they have a seatbelt).

We went home and ate dinner then went back out to go around the neighborhood. This year was fun because they understood what to do and we didn't have to walk all the way to the door with them. Hailey would knock with her hand and at the same time she would say "knock knock you home?" when people would come to the door they would say "tick or teat". Many people had told Hailey how pretty she looked all dressed up that when someone didn't say some thing she asked "Am I cute?".

As we were coming to a close on the houses in the neighborhood there was one house the kids had noticed being decorated with a white sheeted creature and a red sheeted creature (not entirely sure what they were called, I think Kolby called them monsters), earlier that day they had noticed the creatures had been removed, so as we approached the house that night the creatures were sitting in chairs on the front lawn. The sidewalk was lined with jack-o-lantern's. Kolby and Hailey walked up to the white creature as the bowl of candy was on it's lap. The creature wispered "Happy Halloween" in a very nonscary voice. Both kids turned screaming and ran back to where Gigi and I stood. We walked back up and the guy had taken off his mask and told Kolby he was really sorry and he didn't mean to scare him, and he was just having fun. Kolby had been scared enough he cried a little.

Gigi and I had a hard time not laughing hystarically as it was really funny but bless his heart he was terrified.

Wow - Time to Play Catch Up...

Okay, so I've fallen through the cracks on posting and havn't posted anything in over two months. There are lots of small things to post about but I'm going to use the next several posts to get them all down. I'll start here with Hailey's Therapy.

I'm not sure when the change was made but Therapy Source switched Hailey's therapist from Ms. Mandy to Ms. Lanee. Hailey says she likes Ms. Lanee but I don't get the detailed reports like I was getting from Ms. Mandy. We have noticed an improvement in her speech and one of the things we are working on with her right now is making eye contact when she talks to you.

She is consistanly working on a couple of phrases at home:
"I don't know" instead of "My nee know"
"Please" instead of "Peas"

And we are working with both kids to use the proper pronouns when talking.

More Therapy

I have been a bit busy and haven't sat down and put Hailey's latest therapy notes online. I am having computer issues today so work is pretty slow, thought I had enough time to post these.

Comments on today's session:
*Oral motor exercises to practice: touch tongue up to nose (have her do that 10 times with several repetitions). This will help with strength for her /t/ sound.
*With her "H" words add "see" + word for phrases.

Great job! To work on her T sound, I am sending home smarties. Have her put one on her tongue and then raise the smartie to just behind her teeth (just say ta and you can feel where the tongue should be) Have her hold it there for 10 seconds and then eat it!

Bugs Bite!

Yesterday morning Kolby woke up complaining his legs was sore. Upon a closer look he had apparently been scratching at some bug bites in his sleep. One of the bites had welped up and looked a little hive like. I put some hydrocortizone on it and sent him off to daycare for the day. I informed the center about it and asked them to let me know if it got any worse.

When I got to school to pick him up his leg was swollen. I took a picture (I'll try to upload soon) that made it almost look broken it was so swollen on one side. I showed the picture to my mom and she was concerned and suggested I call the doctors office to see if I should take him in or not.

I called the office and left a message, they paged Dr. Daley and he called me back in about 5 mins. (have I mentioned I love this doctor?) I explained to him what happend and that the bites felt warm. He told me to give him 1tsp of benadryl immediately put ice on it for a while, after the ice put more cream then another tsp of benadryl before bed, and bring him to the office in the morning.

I followed the doctors orders exactly and Gigi and Papa took him to the doctor this morning. Turns out it is not infected, but there is nothing we can do about it other than treat them as they appear. Doc said starting putting cream as soon as we notice bites and hopefully he won't scratch them and they will go away vertually pain free.

I also had mom ask him about the recent bed wetting we have been facing lately. Someone had suggested to me it might be an infection causing the accedents but the doctor informed us it is actually a sleeping disorder. It has nothing to do with the need to go, and in fact he doesn't even really need to go, he just does. The doctor suggested using pull ups and said that waking him up to go at night doesn't help anything.

My only question to this would be if getting him up doesn't help then why when we get him up does he not have accidents but if we don't then he does?
