Day Five Vacation

We have had quite the eventful week seeing as we spent the week at home. On Friday we decided we were going to check out the local Children's Museum, Kaleidoscope.

Daddy didn't really want to go and had planned on mowing the lawn, so Gigi graciously accepted the invitation to join us (I didn't want to be out numbered by the short people).

When I asked the kids if they would like to go to the museum, Hailey got very excited and started frantically looking around the room saying "my book, my book, like in my book" This made me giggle as the book she was refering to was Fancy Nancy goes to the Museum. I hated to give her the wrong ideas as this was not going to be an art museum.

Gigi arrived at the house ready to go and we all ran through the rain and jumpped into the car. We wove throught the streets of Tulsa to 61st and Sheridan. Luckily we saw the sign on the building before we drove by, this is one of the first improvements they should make. There are several.

We all jump out of the car and run inside, where a random girl sticks her head out of what I can only assume was a front office of sorts and asks if we were paying all together or separate. When I said together she said it will be $24. I handed her my money she stamped our hands with a date and told us the "rules"

Museum Rules:
1) No Running
2) Use gentle hands
3) Put everything back after you play with it.

So we walk in and immediately walk into the cafe, we steered the kids to the right and they saw what looked like a minnature town. There was a Cafe, grocery store, doctors/dentist office, barber shop and a post office.

First stop was the cafe. Gigi and I sat at one of the tiny tables while the kids took our orders. We ordered the things we could see behind the counter in hopes they would go look for it. Hailey filled Gigi's order and everytime she brought something to the table she would hold up her hands and say "not yet, it REALLY hot". This in turn brought on a fit of giggles from Gigi and I. After our meal was over and all foods were put back in their place, we headed next door to the Grocery store.

This Grocery Store could have been done much better, it looked alot like my kids kitchen with old empty boxes set on shelves. They did have a few small shopping carts that were just the right size. The kids went shopping and I was first to check out a customer, Kolby! This was a very interesting observation as Kolby was very meticulous about what items he chose to buy. One of each fruit, granola bars, cereal, laundry soap, juice and a water for mommy (sweet kid). Another thing to improve on...the cash register didn't open at all!

Hailey's shopping cart on the other hand had just about the entire store in it. It was filled to the top and she only went to the register because she couldn't fit anymore in the basket. Gigi and Kolby worked together to ring up her cart which came to a big total of $20 (that was the only pretend money around, in actuality her cart would have been closer to $120 at least). We put all our groceries back (we are following the rules you see), and headed to the doctor's office.

At the Doctor's office someone hadn't been following rule number 2, remember use gentle hands, because of the things in this office most everything was broken or falling apart. We looked at some xrays and decided to move on our way.

The Barbershop was interesting. Gigi sat in the chair by the sink and Hailey washed her hair, and painted her nails. I was sitting in the other seat where Kolby used a pair of blue scissors that were at least 18 inches long to give me a trim.

We moved onto the Post office where there was some plastic envelopes for mailing and a handful of broken scales. Gigi and I each took a couple of letters and told the kids we needed stamps so we could mail the letters out. Kolby took the letters and sorted them into the mailbox hanging on the wall while Hailey searched for "stamps". She finally walked over to us with a small shipping box and asked if we needed stamps, once we affirmed we did she touched the box to the back our our hands and bent down and did the same on our feet. I was the first to catch on and it put me into a fit of giggles. Every Saturday this spring the kids go to gymnastics class. At the end of class they get stamps on their hands and feet. Hailey informed us that our stamps were ladybugs.

We finished the little town area so we walked back through "cafe" of the place and found the black light room. They had music playing in here and the kids both ran in and jumped around dancing and spinning in circles. This room didn't hold their interest for very long. So we moved on to the jail. The jail had bars, and a hanging bed, we walked in and looked then left again.

Continuing on down the hall we found what I like to consider the jungle gym room. There was a large climbing structure like that found at McDonalds, two rock walls giant bowling pins and a couple other games with no instruction so not too sure what they were. The kids immediately wanted to climb in the structure so they took their shoes off and went after it. They made it to the very top and slid down the twisty slide. A couple more times through and they were ready to move on.

The next room was the art room. This room could have been done very neatly and Hailey would have spent most of the day in here. The room was very very very quiet, they really needed to have some music on in the background or something. They had lots of art projects you could pay extra for, we opted not to do that. They had face painting, get this, set up with a mirror and face crayons to paint your own face. I didn't tell them it was over there. They had easles for water colors, a table with pencils, crayons and markers, another table with stamps and stamp pads. Kolby was tired of the art room first, not to my surprise, right outside the room he found an indoor garden filled with dirt, bugs, shovels, gloves, pails, plants you name it. He crawled in and dug around in the dirt for a while until Hailey finished her art work.

Next was the lifesize doll house. I really thought this would be cool and they would like playing house in this giant doll house. It was two stories they saw the stairs first so we went up before even looking at the downstairs. Upstairs was just an empty room. Even I was disappointed by this, there was nothing up there at all. They came back down and didn't even glance at the other room, who could blame them. I looked in there was a small couch, two chairs, a fire place and a dinosaur, yes you read that correctly there as a large tricerotops in the living room of the doll house.

Right outside the doll house was a stage that appropriately said "You Are A Star", there was a curtian and a ton of different dress up outfits, from costumes to dresses. Hailey put on several performances where she came out from the curtain and sang and danced. Kolby put on a couple different outfits but then he was good to go. Finally we pried them out of the museum and decided to go somewhere to eat.

After we ate we came back to the house and the kids went to their rooms for quiet time. After quiet time they watch a couple movies before bed. It was a fun time to end our vacation.

Saturday will consist of our normal routing of laundry, cleaning house, and gymnastics while Sunday we will go to Gigi's house. It's been a great week but now I think I need a vacation from my vacation.
